Have you ever been to Mozambique? I’ve been four times now and each time I fall more and more in love with one of the most underrated countries in Africa. Mozambique is a popular destination for South Africans since the countries border each other. But to many international tourists, Mozambique is still just a place on the map. I first visited this paradise on a family trip when I was 14. We stayed in Tofo which is a coastal town in Southeastern Mozambique. We loved it so much that we went back to the same spot a few years later. Recently I got to experience a different part of Mozambique while staying at Vilanculos Beach Lodge on a girls trip. Today I found my mind wandering back to a few years ago, to one of our first big trips together. An MSC Portuguese Island Cruise. A cruise to Maputo and The Portuguese island. For anybody who is unsure, The Portuguese island is a small, uninhabited island found off the coast of Mozambique, in Africa. It is nowhere close to Portugal. A sanctuary for the soul – that’s the best way to describe Bazaruto Island. Just think unspoiled beach, silky soft sand, large sand dunes, and a bountiful of marine life; Bazaruto is a near pristine tropical paradise. Back in August, while on a girls trip, we took a boat trip out from Vilanculos to Bazaruto for the day. This was how I got to experience this hidden gem.
