Thanks to the infamous palm tree rope swing, Dalawella Beach has become one of the main attractions in Unawatuna. One of the things that I was looking most forward to during our two weeks in Sri Lanka was sea turtles. I had never seen one and I think that they are one of the most gorgeous creatures. I didn’t do much research on it prior to our trip, but on arrival, I quickly realized that there are sea turtle hatcheries everywhere! Seriously, you cannot drive down the areas of the West Coast without seeing a turtle hatchery every few kilometers. The South coast of Sri Lanka offers an exquisite coastline with some of the most beautiful beaches and a laid-back atmosphere. In a lot of ways, the South is the epitome of Sri Lanka at its most traditional. With long stretches of golden beaches, palm trees lining the shore, colonial townscapes, a host of Buddhist shrines and temples, and stilt fishermen, the south coast is one of the most rewarding places to visit in Sri Lanka. If, like us, you want to explore the south, then Unawatuna is a great place to base yourself for a few days. We finally made it to Sri Lanka – a destination at the top of our bucket list. We visited beautiful little Sri Lanka for the first time in February and fell in love almost instantly. Found just off the southeast tip of India, it’s home to stunning beaches and nature, delicious food, wildlife, and amazing people.
